Laura Howell, M.A.T.

Laura has been an educator for more than 30 years, with the majority of her career spent at Georgetown Day School in Washington, DC. In 2021, she transitioned from the classroom to working with students individually and in small groups as a social coach, supporting their growth in social learning. When Laura works with students, she strives to make the rules of the complicated social world more explicit and to increase their social awareness and ability to positively connect with others.

What is your education/training?

I received my B.A. in Psychology and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Tufts University. I have also completed clinical training in the Social Thinking® methodology.

What are examples of concepts you work on with your students?

Making and keeping friends, working with others, conversation strategies, flexibility and compromise, problem solving, and perspective taking... to name a few!

Where do you do this work?

I run groups and see individual clients at various schools in the DMV and in my offices in Spring Valley, DC and Kensington, MD.

When you are not "socializing" with your students, what do you like to do?

I like to do yoga, go for long walks, and try new restaurants! I also love to spend time with my family in my hometown, San Diego, CA.
